The next destination for the day is Palm Valley, an incredible outback oasis that supports a diverse range of plant species. Rife with red cabbage palms, it’s no secret how the valley got the name.
As you approach lunch time, it’s time for a picnic in a 46,000 hectare national park. The Finke Gorge National Park is noted for its ancient palms and also holds great cultural significance to the Arrarnta people, who are the local custodians of the land. You can also see the remains of one of the early European settlements in the region.
Get a feel of ancient life at Hermannsburg Aboriginal Community where you get to know the Arrarnta people better. Known as ‘Ntaria’, it is the birthplace of the famous Aboriginal artist Albert Namatjira, and has a rich indigenous art collection. Wander amidst the amazing artwork and the historic buildings, before heading back to Alice Springs.
