Here’s a great combo day tour from Melbourne that pairs nature’s best getaways with a Yarra Valley Wine tour to scenic wineries established back way back in 1837!
Begin your day with a courtesy pick up from your hotel and travel through Melbourne’s eastern suburbs on a comfortable air-conditioned coach. Amid distant views of the Dandenongs, enjoy informative commentary from an expert guide/driver.
Travel east for about 35 kms from Melbourne to reach your first stop, the Dandenongs Ranges. The mountains rise to about 630 metres above sea-level and is covered with rich rainforests inhabited by native wildlife. Known for its authentic art and craft stores & homemade produce, the area is also home to the tallest flowering plant in the world, Mountain Ash trees, numerous waterfalls and the renowned Puffing Billy Railway!
At the heart of the Dandenongs lies Grants on Sherbrooke, your tea-stop for the day. Sip Devonshire tea with a side of homemade scones, served warm with jam and cream. Take in lush jungle views while breathing in fresh mountain air, enjoying a tea-time break like never before!
Once done with tea, hand-feed some feathered Aussie friends like the Crimson rosella, Sulphur-crested cockatoo and Pink-chested galah. Get some snaps with them to make most of your rainforest sojourn!
A century-old steam train ride is next on the cards! The Puffing Billy Steam train weighs over 33 tonnes and glides down a mountain track from Belgrave to Menzies Creek. Catch roving views of every place right from Sherbrooke Forest, Trestle Bridge, Menzies Creek and Port Phillip Bay. Once your 30-minutes of rail time is up, it’s local wine time!
Head down to Yarra Valley cloaked by views of the Great Dividing Range. Once you arrive, you’ll be taken to Rochford Winery alongside two other leading wineries. Explore the tastes and know more about wine making. Also, enjoy stops at wine estates like Dominique Portet to make most of the cellar door tastings of award-winning Aussie wine brews. Once done, get back to Melbourne on the coach.
Nothing better to end a trip than some velvety local wines, right? Make the most of it. Cheers!
