Explore Cooktown; enjoy diverse landscapes along Mulligan Highway

Explore Cooktown, one of the great last frontiers between outback and modern Australia, on a scenic coastal 4WD tour!

Your journey starts from Cairns on a custom-built 4WD vehicle to Cape Tribulation via the Great Barrier Reef Drive along the spectacular coastline hugging two World Heritage areas, Great Barrier Reef and Wet Tropics.

Pass through the mighty Daintree River on a cable ferry. Also, witness spectacular views of amazing plant and animal diversity at the Daintree Rainforest. Later, enjoy morning tea and tasty homemade scones with jam & cream at the historic Heritage Hotel.
After your Daintree National Park tour, you will travel along the Bloomfield Track, on a route accessible only on 4WD. Your expert guide will keep you entertained with incredible stories and history all along. See some impressive countryside views as you drive through rivers, creeks and mountain ranges.

Your next stop is at the Bana Yirriji Art and Cultural Centre, situated along the banks of Bloomfield river. Indulge in an authentic Aboriginal experience with the Wujal Wujal community. You will also have an opportunity to visit and talk with Aborigines and artists.

Later, halt for lunch at Bloom’s Cafe, home to one of Queensland’s oldest running bush pubs. Post lunch, get ready to cross rivers and climb mountain ranges to reach the infamous Lion’s Den Hotel, built in 1875. Visit the museum there and see a collection of unique prospector artefacts before moving on.

Halt next to see a unique geological oddity, Black Mountain. Clouded in mystery, spirituality and entrenched in Aboriginal folklore, this mountain is a sight not to be missed.

After some time at the Black Mountain, visit the top of Grassy Hill for panoramic views of Endeavour River, surrounded by Coral Sea and Cooktown. This is also the spot where Captain Cook endeavoured to fix his broken ship.

You will now have some free time to explore Cooktown. Stroll along its streets and visit the world-class James Cook Museum. Your tour ends with a return journey along the Mulligan Highway passing by diverse landscapes through cattle stations. Also enjoy sweeping views of Palmer River goldfields and make a stop for your evening meal break (own expense) before you are transferred to your accommodation.
