Later, halt for lunch at Bloom’s Cafe, home to one of Queensland’s oldest running bush pubs. Post lunch, get ready to cross rivers and climb mountain ranges to reach the infamous Lion’s Den Hotel, built in 1875. Visit the museum there and see a collection of unique prospector artefacts before moving on.
Halt next to see a unique geological oddity, Black Mountain. Clouded in mystery, spirituality and entrenched in Aboriginal folklore, this mountain is a sight not to be missed.
After some time at the Black Mountain, visit the top of Grassy Hill for panoramic views of Endeavour River, surrounded by Coral Sea and Cooktown. This is also the spot where Captain Cook endeavoured to fix his broken ship.
You will now have some free time to explore Cooktown. Stroll along its streets and visit the world-class James Cook Museum. Your tour ends with a return journey along the Mulligan Highway passing by diverse landscapes through cattle stations. Also enjoy sweeping views of Palmer River goldfields and make a stop for your evening meal break (own expense) before you are transferred to your accommodation.
